UH Campus Receives Turkey Day Classic Texas Historical Marker
For nearly two decades on Thanksgiving Day from 1946-1966, the University of Houston campus site that is now TDECU Stadium hosted the Turkey Day Classic football game between Phillis Wheatley High School and Jack Yates High School. Recognizing the impact the annual tradition had on Houston, the Harris County Historical Commission unveiled an official state historical marker at the site.
Celebrating 100 Years of Stories at the University of Houston
UH’s Center for Public History and UH Libraries present the “Agents of Change” exhibit and launch the newest version of Houston History magazine to celebrate UH’s decades of impact on Houston over the last 100 years. The exhibit opening and magazine launch event will take place on Wednesday, Sept. 27, 2023, from 5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Elizabeth D. Rockwell Pavilion at UH’s MD Anderson Library.
Houston Athletics and Memorial Hermann Launch New Chapter
The University of Houston Athletics program is receiving support from Memorial Hermann Health System for its planned state-of-the-art Houston Football Operations Center and scholarships for Houston’s student-athletes. In recognition of the agreement, the University has awarded Memorial Hermann naming rights to the center.
