Esohe Faith Ohuoba, M.D., M.P.H., FACOG

Esohe Faith Ohuoba, M.D., M.P.H., FACOG, is an Associate Professor in the Department of Clinical Sciences at the Tilman J. Fertitta Family College of Medicine. She also serves as the assistant clerkship director for obstetrics and gynecology, where she helps oversee curriculum development, student assessment, and clinical training for medical students during their women’s health rotation. Her clinical background is in full-scope obstetrics and gynecology, and she has extensive experience supporting patients across all stages of reproductive health, with particular expertise in minimally invasive gynecologic surgery, including Da Vinci robotic procedures and the Acessa ProVu system.

In her role, Ohuoba works closely with clinical partners, trainees, and interdisciplinary teams to strengthen obstetric and gynecologic education. She contributes to teaching in multiple settings, including simulation-based training in postpartum hemorrhage management, resident and medical student didactics, and interdepartmental collaboration in reproductive health procedures. She also mentors students with interests in women’s health, reproductive justice, and maternal-child health.

Her work focuses on improving maternal health outcomes, reducing reproductive health disparities, and increasing patient access to safe, equitable obstetric and gynecologic care. She is especially passionate about advancing maternal health equity and has contributed to numerous institutional and statewide initiatives aimed at improving outcomes in pregnancy and childbirth. She has served as a Texas AIM Physician Leader for hypertension and postpartum hemorrhage and has held multiple leadership roles dedicated to quality improvement, peer review and clinical innovation.

Before joining the Fertitta Family College of Medicine, Ohuoba served as a physician with Memorial Hermann Medical Group and at Baylor College of Medicine. Her leadership roles have included medical director and specialty medical director for obstetrics and gynecology at Memorial Hermann Medical Group, department chair of obstetrics and gynecology at Memorial Hermann Northeast, maternal medical director, and supervising physician for the March of Dimes Mobile Van Clinic. She has also contributed to clinical standards and credentialing through service on numerous hospital and systemwide committees, including the Memorial Hermann Physician Network Clinical Programs Committees and credentialing committees at Memorial Hermann and Houston Northwest Medical Center.

She received her undergraduate degrees in biochemistry and chemistry from North Carolina State University, graduating summa cum laude and earning induction into Phi Beta Kappa. She earned her medical degree from Boston University School of Medicine and her Master of Public Health in maternal and child health from the Boston University School of Public Health. She completed her obstetrics and gynecology residency at Baylor College of Medicine.

Ohuoba has engaged in advanced training through the Harvard Medical School Media and Medicine Program, the NIH’s Translational Health Disparities Scholars Program, and leadership and health-equity training initiatives within Boston University and the Massachusetts Department of Public Health. She is a contributor to research in maternal and child health, obstetrics, perinatal outcomes, and pediatric infectious diseases. Her work has appeared in journals including the American Journal of Perinatology and the Journal of Pediatric Hematology/Oncology, and she has presented nationally at meetings including CityMatCH, NASPAG, and the American College of Sports Medicine.

Her leadership and advocacy have been recognized through the Kenneth C. Edelin Award for Excellence in Obstetrics and Gynecology, the Boston Albert Schweitzer Fellowship, and the CURE Research Scholar Award. She has been featured in national media, including Essence, Women’s Health, Women’s World, and The Bump, where she has contributed to conversations on Black maternal health, cervical insufficiency, fibroid care, and reproductive health policy.

Ohuoba is a diplomate of the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology and a member of the Association of Professors of Gynecology and Obstetrics and the Harris County Medical Society.
