Prajakta Yeragi, M.D., FAAP

Prajakta Yeragi, M.D., FAAP, is the director of the Longitudinal Primary Care (LPC) Course and a clinical associate professor in the Department of Clinical Sciences. She serves on the Curriculum Committee and practices at the UH Family Care Center. Yeragi is a board-certified pediatrician, medical educator, researcher and Fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics whose career has been dedicated to advancing health through excellence in medical education, clinical care, research and community engagement.

Yeragi completed her pediatrics residency at New York Medical College–Metropolitan Hospital Center. Before joining the Fertitta College of Medicine, she served as faculty at McGovern Medical School at UTHealth Houston and was affiliated with the Center for Health Equity at the UT School of Public Health. She cared for patients across outpatient and hospital settings while holding numerous educational leadership roles in undergraduate and graduate medical education.

A passionate educator, Yeragi served on the McGovern Medical School Curriculum Committee for six years. She also was a member of the Curriculum Review and Clinical Education subcommittees, contributing to the design, evaluation and continuous improvement of the medical school curriculum. She served as co-director of the Primary Care Career Focus Track for medical students and directed educational initiatives designed to prepare future physicians to deliver high-quality, patient-centered primary care. She also led the Pediatric Resident Leadership Track on Advocacy and served on the Clinical Core Competency Committee for the General Pediatrics Residency Program, mentoring residents and supporting their professional development.

Yeragi’s dedication to teaching has been recognized through multiple honors, including the McGovern Medical School Faculty Educator Award, the Dean’s Award for Teaching Excellence and the Champions of the Learning Environment Award. These honors reflect her commitment to fostering supportive learning environments, mentoring students and residents and promoting collaborative approaches to advancing health.

As a clinician, Yeragi has extensive experience caring for culturally diverse and medically underserved populations. Her clinical interests and scholarly work focus on primary care, obesity prevention, nutrition and addressing social determinants of health through community-based interventions and multidisciplinary collaboration. She received funding from the Humana Foundation to expand the Brighter Bites Produce Rx Program and evaluate the impact of produce prescriptions on children’s dietary behaviors and obesity-related outcomes.

In recognition of her commitment to medical education and community pediatrics, Yeragi received the American Academy of Pediatrics Leonard P. Rome CATCH Visiting Professorship Grant, a competitive national award.

Yeragi remains committed to improving the health and well-being of patients and communities through excellence in clinical care, impactful research, community engagement and innovative medical education that prepares the next generation of physicians.
