First-Time Freshman

All first-time freshman applicants must complete the CommonApp application. Applicants must meet general University admissions requirements before being accepted by the University of Houston. Applicants who indicate Architecture, Interior Architecture, Environmental Design, or Industrial Design as their first-choice major will be considered for admission into the College of Architecture and Design after they have been admitted to the University of Houston.

FTIC applicants must submit a portfolio, which includes a statement of interest. The portfolio and statement of interest should be uploaded to SlideRoom, not to the Common Application. Applicants are encouraged to submit the portfolio at the same time they complete the Common Application.

The CommonApp application and portfolio should be submitted by the February 1st priority application deadline if applicants wish to receive priority consideration. Admission to the Hines College is competitive and selective. The college has many more applicants than seats available for incoming students each fall term. Therefore, applicants are encouraged to apply early. Admissions offers are released on a rolling basis. Once seats are filled, applicants who were not admitted are invited to reapply for a future term.

All portfolios must be submitted to our College’s online SlideRoom application for First Time in College (FTIC) portal. There is a $5.00 service fee attached to the portfolio submission. This fee is applied to the cost of the submission service; it does not go to the College of Architecture and Design.

All transcripts must be submitted to the University of Houston Office of Admissions.

Applicants will need to retrieve their myUH number, issued by the University upon applying, and set a password. If applicants have difficulties logging in, contact UH Information Technology at support@uh.edu or 713-743-1411.
