John Zhao
B.A. Political Science and Philosophy (2019)
Before John Zhao began his journey through the UH Recreation center, he struggled with insecurity over his appearance for several years. After a burst of motivation to improve his health and self-confidence, he looked to our facility to start his path towards wellness. John’s first impressions were that the rec was “large and energetic” and he initially felt intimidated when he was surrounded by so many fit people. However, it was during his workouts here where he met lots of friends who helped motivate him to continue improving. It is through his drive and the close bonds he has formed here, that John has been able to stay happily engaged in his approach to his personal well-being. After over three years since John began his fitness journey, he is now a Fitness Zone Attendant, has lost over 130 pounds and has conquered his negative outlook about his appearance, all while having a good time with his best friends. For John, “going to the Rec to meet friends is the best part of the day.”
