On-campus resources

Resources for help finding employment, building a career, and developing personal and professional skills.

University Career Services- University Career Services is a full-service career center offering students and UH alumni resources and assistance in developing and carrying out their career plans. Resources offered include career counseling, workshops, career fairs, student employment resources, and comprehensive resource/tips lists on their website. Offices are located on UH main campus and Sugarland campus.

  • Individual Career Counseling Appointments- talk to someone for help with choosing a major or career path, Resume/CV/Cover Letter help, help finding employment or internships, interview tips and practice, graduate school, salary negotiation, and more.
    • Schedule an appointment on Cougar Pathway in Wait times are often 1-2 weeks. If you have a more urgent need, you can stop by for a 15-minute drop-in appointment during specific drop-in hours (found on Career Services’ website).
  • Career Closet- program offers $10 3-day rentals for business professional clothing. Schedule an appointment for the Career Closet through Cougar Pathway in AccessUH.
    • JC Penny Suit Up Event- every Fall, Career Services partners with JC Penny to offer 30% discounts on JC Penny’s professional attire.
  • Student Employment- Visit Cougar Pathway in AccessUH for listings and applications for on-campus jobs, as well as internships and full-time job opportunities.

Bauer College of Business Rockwell Career Center- career search assistance available to students enrolled in the Bauer College of Business, including job fairs, digital resources, job boards, and more.

Center for Student Empowerment (CSE)- offers individualized advising, mentorship, scholarships, and personal development workshops for students, including specialized supports and resources for DACA students, students transitioning from foster care, and first gen and other underrepresented students.

  • You can access many of CSE’s supports by becoming a member, which requires completing an application and meeting with a CSE staff member.

Engineering Career Center- career search assistance available only to students enrolled in the Cullen College of Engineering. Offers career counseling, digital resources, workshops, job fairs, and more.

Equal Opportunity Services (EOS)- this office enforces UH’s non-discrimination and Sexual Misconduct/Title IX policies. You can make a report of discrimination or sexual misconduct on their website. EOS also offers trainings on topics of discrimination, sexual misconduct prevention, reporting, and accommodations.

iGrad- This online platform provides resources to help with budgeting, building credit, saving, and other financial skills, as well as an extensive scholarship database. Free for all UH students.

International Student and Scholar Services Office (ISSSO)- International students with questions about employment can look at general employment information here as well as OPT information here and/or visit ISSSO in Student Center North, 2nd floor, to talk to an advisor.

LAUNCH- Learning Advancements for UNdergraduate Cougars of Houston lets your success take off, with drop-in Peer Tutoring for over 100 separate courses, Success Workshops (topics include time management, notetaking, ADHD/ADD tips, and much more), and Individual Academic Coaching.

    • LAUNCH also provides resources for graduate students. Call Dr. Laura Heidel (713-743-5439) for more information.

NSM (Natural Sciences and Mathematics) Career Center- career search assistance available to students enrolled in the College of Natural Sciences and Mathematics, including online career counseling, digital resources, job fairs, and more.

UH Law Center Career Development Office- career search assistance available to students enrolled in the UH Law Center, including career counseling, job fairs, and more.

Goodwill Job Connections- There are several Goodwill Career Centers across Houston that offer help with job search, skills training, and more. Call the location nearest you for more information.

Texas Workforce Commission- find information about unemployment benefits, reporting workplace discrimination, state-wide job fairs, and more here.
