New Student Orientation

Every student will receive an asynchronous online orientation course to complete in early July which will cover advising, course registration, student policies, and practicum. The second part of orientation is an event (in-person or online) where you will meet classmates, current students and staff, and learn more about student life. Participation in new student orientation is required for all incoming MSW students but you will be able to choose between attending in-person on Friday, July 26, 2024, 9 am – 3 pm or online on Saturday, July 27, 2024, 9 am – 3 pm.

 

Practicum Requirements

 

SOCW 6201: Foundations of the Social Work Profession 

All incoming students will complete a 2-semester credit unit course, SOCW 6201 Foundations of the Social Work Profession. This course has a unique structure and will be fully completed a month after the semester starts. It consists of a summer preparation assignment, readings, and learning activities. 

  • Online students will complete all the activities for this course online. 
  • Hybrid students will complete some activities for this course through online modules and some activities in person at the at the UH Sugarland Campus 14000 University Blvd, Sugar Land, TX 77479 alongside their first mandatory, regularly scheduled hybrid class day, Saturday Aug. 24, 2024. On this date, hybrid students should expect to be in class from 8:30am-4:30pm. 
  • Face to face students will complete all course activities in person on a single, mandatory, class day Saturday Aug. 24, 2024, at the UH Sugarland Campus 14000 University Blvd, Sugar Land, TX 77479 from 8:30am-4:30pm.

*Weekend/evening parking passes and main campus parking passes will work in the Sugarland parking lot on this day. More specific details about timing, the course, the summer preparation assignment, and the agenda will be shared this summer to help you prepare for and engage in this course. Please make plans now for participation and transportation. 

 

Student Experience

 

International (F-1) Students
