Eligibility Requirements

3.0 preferred

Teacher Certification

The GRE is not required for this program.

For international students: This program does not meet the requirements for studying in the U.S. with an F-1 or J-1 visa.

Application Materials

Applicants must submit the following 2 applications and respective materials to be considered for admission into the Specialist in Special Education program.

Your resume should include your academic history, professional experience, and, if applicable, any relevant research and publications.

Transcript(s)

3 Letters of Recommendation

A recommender should be able to comment on your academic potential in graduate school and leadership potential in the field of study. You will provide contact information for references and they will receive an email with instructions.

Statement of Interest

Write a statement of interest that addresses the following:

Reason(s) for applying to the specific program
Preparation for the intended field of study
Research and study interests
Future career plans or other aspects of your background and interests

Format:

Maximum of 3 pages, double-spaced
Times New Roman font (12 point)
1-inch margins

Application Fee

$25 for domestic applicants
$80 for international applicants

English Proficiency

All graduate applicants, regardless of citizenship status, must demonstrate proficiency in English to obtain admission to UH. Many applicants meet this requirement based on earning an undergraduate degree in the United States and do not need to submit documentation beyond their transcript. Short Video Interview

You will be asked to record a 4-5 minute video of yourself answering questions about your teaching interests and philosophy.

Admissions Decisions

Applicants will receive email confirmation via ApplyWeb when all required documents have been received.
Admission decisions will be posted in ApplyWeb. You must formally accept your admissions offer in ApplyWeb in order to enroll.
