Is this program for me?

The 15-hour minor in Health, reflecting an interest in wellness, health promotion and allied health careers, blends with majors in the natural and social sciences.  The minor also can prepare students for entry into a health-related graduate program.  The minor, open to all students, would be especially appropriate for the following majors: 

  • Allied Health
  • Nutrition
  • Pharmacy
  • Optometry
  • Health Communications
  • Biology
  • Biochemical and Biophysical Sciences
  • Chemistry
  • Education
  • Human Development and Consumer Science

What will I Learn?

Students pursuing a Minor in Health will learn to:

  • Assess Individual and Community Needs for Health
  • Plan and implement Health Promotion Strategies, Interventions, and Programs
  • Serve as a Health Resource Person
  • Communicate and Advocate for Health
  • Evaluate Health Promotion Programs

Since degree plans change periodically, students will follow the degree plan that is in place at the time in which they complete an official, signed degree plan.  Following is the most current sample degree plan for a Minor in Health.

Total Hours: 15

A total of fifteen (15) hours are required, nine (9) of which must be advanced. Nine (9) hours must be taken in residence, six (6) of which must be advanced. Students must earn a 2.00 minimum cumulative grade point average on courses attempted in the minor at the University of Houston.
