The Nuestra Casa: Spanish Immersion House LLC is an engaging, supportive, and immersive Living Learning Community for students interested in learning or maintaining their Spanish language skills at all levels. Designed as a fun and relaxed environment, the community offers a unique opportunity for students from any major and all backgrounds to practice speaking Spanish in real-life contexts to build fluency through conversation and curated experiences.

Why Should I Join this LLC?

Students in the Nuestra Casa: Spanish Immersion House LLC will be encouraged to speak Spanish within the community, creating an everyday environment that builds confidence in using Spanish for daily communication. Through dinners, movie and game nights, study groups, and events conducted in Spanish, students will integrate language skills into their academic, professional, and personal development. 

How Will I Benefit?

• We prioritize dedicated language support through a living-in-language environment, such as conversation cafés and language tables, where students practice speaking Spanish in a relaxed, social environment.
• We provide a robust calendar of events that balance language practice and community building, such as cooking nights, Spanish-language movie nights, off-campus excursions, and Faculty–led engagements such as informal “coffee with a professor” sessions.
• Students have the opportunity to attend lectures and performances, and to hear guest speakers.
• Our community offers academic enrichment, including study sessions and tutoring hours integrated into the residence hall, as well as priority advising for study abroad, internships, and careers that value Spanish-language skills.
• Residents receive priority enrollment.

Where Will I Live?

This community is part of Cougar Village. Students will live in a 2-bedroom suite with two students per furnished bedroom and a private bathroom per suite. Other amenities include: mini fridges in room, floor kitchens, high-speed internet, study rooms, outdoor living room, Cougar Village Market (convenience store), and adjacent to Moody Towers Dining Hall.

Eligibility Requirements 

• Be any freshmen, regardless of major or background. We welcome students from elementary Spanish level to advanced Spanish/native speakers. 
• Enroll in common section of USS 1301 College Success, which satisfies UH Core Writing in the Discipline 
• Enroll in common section of  HIST 1301 The U.S. to 1877
• Residents are encouraged to enroll in any SPAN course so they can fully benefit from the learning opportunities associated with the community.

How Do I Apply? 

Visit the myHousing application in AccessUH and select Nuestra Casa: Spanish Immersion House LLC. Applications are due June 30th. Spaces are limited, so apply early.

There is no additional cost to participate in this LLC beyond standard housing and university fees.
