NSF Funded Graduate Research Assistantship Opportunities
The Department of Curriculum and Instruction at the University of Houston is seeking three highly qualified Graduate Research Assistants to join an NSF-funded project. The project will focus on adapting middle school science curricula and take place in a highly diverse urban school district in Texas. The RAs will work with an interdisciplinary team with expertise in science education, bilingual education, educational psychology, and literacy education. These RA positions are expected to work 20 hours per week in fall 2023 and spring 2024, with the possibility of one additional summer month appointment in 2024 depending on satisfactory performance.
Qualifications:
- A current graduate student in Science Education, Bilingul/ESL Eduction, Language and Literacy Education, or related STEM education or social science fields is required.
- Applicants must have a strong interest in educational research and be available to travel to school sites in a certain period during the fall and spring semesters.
- Content knowledge in middle school science, general background in language, literacy, and bilingual education, and experiences with working with K-12 teachers are desired.
- Outstanding working ethics, oral and written communication, and organizational skills are required. Applicants who are fluent in one or more languages in addition to English are preferred.
Responsibilities:
Primary responsibilities include assisting in teacher professional development, engaging in field observation and data collection, and assisting in literature review, data entry, data analysis, grant report preparation, and manuscript writing for presentations and publications.
