Biographical Summary

Hayan Charara is an associate professor in the Honors College and the Department of English. He is the author of four poetry books, most recently These Trees, Those Leaves, This Flower, That Fruit; a novel, Hush Little Children; and a children’s book, The Three Lucys. He edited Inclined to Speak, an anthology of contemporary Arab American poetry, and with Fady Joudah is founding and series editor of the Etel Adnan Poetry Prize. He teaches creative writing and “The Human Situation” in the Honors College, and he is the faculty advisor of UH’s undergraduate literary journal, Glass Mountain.
