Minimum Technology Requirements
In order to effectively participate in online components of NSM courses, all students in the College of Natural Sciences and Mathematics must have a computer that meets the minimum technology requirements which are listed below.
Additionally, students must have
- Internet connection (speeds ≥24 Mbps upload/download strongly recommended)
- Integrated or external webcam with microphone
- Ability to send scans of paper documents (i.e. using a smart phone with camera or scanner)
Windows PCs
- Webcam with microphone
- Processor – Intel i3 (i5 or higher recommended) or AMD equivalent
- Operating system – Any version of Microsoft Windows 10 except Home (Pro, Enterprise, Education)
- Memory – 8 GB or higher
- Hard drive – 256 GB or larger (SSD preferred)
- Recommended software (available via UH licensing) – UH Microsoft 365 app suite, MS Teams, Respondus lockdown browser with monitor, Acrobat Pro DC, software as recommended per specific courses
Mac Computers
- Webcam with microphone
- Processor – Intel i3 (i5 or higher recommended)
- Operating system – Mac OS 10.13 or newer
- Memory – 8 GB or higher
- Hard drive – 256 GB or larger (SSD preferred)
- Recommended software (available via UH licensing) – UH Microsoft 365 app suite, MS Teams, Respondus lockdown browser with monitor, Acrobat Pro DC, software as recommended per specific courses
NOTE: Devices with ARM processors (example: Microsoft Surface X) should be avoided as some required libraries cannot be installed on them. Tablets running Android, iOS, ChromeOS should also be avoided as they do not currently support all necessary software.
