United States, U.S., USA — Avoid abbreviations on the first reference. Use periods in the abbreviation within text. Do not use periods with US in headlines.

universitywide — One word

University of Houston, UH — Avoid using the abbreviation on first reference when referring to the university itself, although UH is acceptable as a second reference and in tables and headlines. Never refer to the university as the UH or U of H. Do capitalize the word University when using it to mean the University of Houston. Do not capitalize the word university when using it to mean other universities.

For the system universities and centers, on the first reference spell out (without abbreviations): University of Houston-Clear Lake
University of Houston-Downtown
University of Houston-Victoria

UH Frontiersmen — The UH Frontiersmen display the Texas flag and the University of Houston flag at football games. They were established in 1948 to promote Cougar spirit.

UH President — The President and Chancellor should be addressed as “President (last name)” at all events, meetings, etc. strictly pertaining to the University of Houston. His/her spouse should be addressed as applicable. If said spouse has a professional title (professor or doctor, for example), then he/she should be introduced as “Professor/Doctor (last name).” If said spouse does not have a professional title, Mr. or Mrs. will suffice.

President Khator and Professor Khator warmly greeted the latest UH Honor College graduates.

UHS Chancellor— The President and Chancellor should be addressed as “Chancellor (last name)” at all events, meetings, etc. strictly pertaining to the University of Houston System. His/her spouse should be addressed as applicable.  If said spouse has a professional title (professor or doctor, for example), then he/she should be introduced as “Professor/Doctor (last name).”
