Art That Shapes Perspectives

At the School of Art, students don’t just study art—they live it, shape it, and lead with it. Our mission is to empower emerging artists and designers through rigorous studio practice, critical inquiry, and interdisciplinary collaboration. We foster creative exploration, cultural awareness, and professional readiness—preparing students to make meaningful contributions to the art world and the communities they engage.

Reimagining Art, Design, & Scholarship for a Dynamic World

Here, students are more than learners—they’re creators, collaborators, and future leaders in the arts.

At the University of Houston’s School of Art, we empower the next generation of artists, designers, and scholars to transform the visual world.

With a comprehensive range of programs, we provide students the skills, knowledge, and opportunities to thrive in creative careers. From foundational undergraduate degrees to advanced graduate programs, our offerings emphasize interdisciplinary exploration, innovation, and real-world engagement.

Students can pursue a Bachelor of Fine Arts, Bachelor of Arts, or Bachelor of Arts in Art History, with options for minors, teacher certifications, or dual degrees. Graduate students can choose from the Master of Fine Arts or Master of Arts in Art History, with additional opportunities for specialized certificates in museum and gallery management or arts and health.

Situated in Houston’s thriving cultural district and part of the Kathrine G. McGovern College of the Arts, the School of Art serves as a hub for artistic exploration and scholarly excellence. Our Tier One faculty collaborate with Houston’s world-class arts institutions, creating an expanded classroom where students innovate across media, develop technical and critical skills, and forge meaningful connections.

Graduates of the UH School of Art are leaders in their fields, demonstrating the profound impact of art, design, and scholarship in shaping a more inspired and inclusive world.
