CHAMBER MUSIC
Chamber music brings together student talent and training in intimate ensembles guided by expert faculty coaches. Through collaboration, diverse repertoire, and frequent performance opportunities, students develop vital skills for professional success while exploring their artistic voices.

Through chamber music at the Moores School of Music, our students bring their talent, training from applied lessons, and experiences in large ensembles together in the study of repertoire for smaller, more intimate groups. The faculty of MSM share the perspective that the skills acquired by studying and performing chamber music at the undergraduate and graduate levels directly and positively impact the potential for success in a professional career in music.
Students register for chamber music courses, through which faculty chamber music coordinators in each area carefully group student collaborators together and designate appropriate repertoire for each. While each ensemble has a responsibility to rehearse regularly and independently, each group is also placed with a faculty coach with whom they focus on interpretation, score knowledge, effective and constructive communication, listening skills, tonal blending, and musical expression. Often, student chamber ensembles at MSM enjoy working collaboratively with several faculty coaches, from different areas, providing them with multiple points of view.
Additionally, students at MSM have the latitude—and are encouraged—to create their own chamber ensembles and focus on repertoire of their choosing.
Student chamber ensembles have ample opportunities each semester to perform. These include the Tuesdays @ 1 student performance series, area chamber recitals, student degree recitals, studio classes, masterclasses with guest artists, and MSM’s final chamber music recital at the end of every semester. Additionally, student chamber ensembles enjoy numerous opportunities for outreach performances at local schools, healthcare facilities and assist-living communities, and various on-campus events.
