PERCUSSION

The Percussion Studies Area at the Moores School of Music provides an intensive and comprehensive program of study, built on a total percussion perspective and focusing on a solid foundation of musicianship and a heightened attention to musicality. The Percussion Area consistently maintains a studio of 24 students at the undergraduate, master’s, and doctoral levels, each enjoying access to one of the finest and most extensive collections of percussion instruments in the region.
The Moores School Percussion Ensembles serve as the cornerstone of the program. The flagship Moores School Percussion Ensemble is a three-time Percussive Arts Society International Percussion Ensemble Competition winner, has commissioned and premiered sixteen new works for large percussion ensemble, and has recorded three critically acclaimed commercial compact discs.
Percussion music education graduates enjoy a near 100% placement rate in teaching positions in public schools, and our percussionists in all degree tracks are consistently accepted to some of the finest graduate percussion programs across the country. Our students have won prestigious awards and been accepted to esteemed summer music programs throughout the U.S. and Canada, and our graduates have cultivated professional careers in higher education and with some of the nation’s finest orchestras.
