MUSIC EDUCATION
Purposeful. Impactful. Empowering.
Preparing both current and future educators to positively impact lives through the power of music.

The Music Education program is committed to supporting future and current music teachers as they advance their skills as musicians, teachers, and leaders. Our program focuses on real-world, research-based experiences, allowing students to explore many rewarding pathways to make a difference in the lives of young people through music.
Our rigorous undergraduate curriculum features hands-on learning experiences in subjects like conducting, pedagogical approaches, secondary instruments, and vocal techniques. Growth is further supported by an experienced and caring faculty focused on nurturing students to develop their music teacher identities and achieve their future career goals. Graduates of the MSM Music Education program have gone on to be successful teachers and leaders in the field both in Texas and across the United States.
Our graduate program offers small class sizes and a collaborative structure for master’s and doctoral students. Students actively engage with contemporary topics, such as culturally responsive teaching, pedagogical approaches, music psychology, vernacular musicianship, and teacher education, led by an accomplished faculty who have been published in numerous national and international publications. Graduates of our program have been awarded positions as university faculty, fine arts administrators, and non-profit leaders.
