Funding for Your Musical Future
The Moores School of Music offers competitive, merit-based scholarships, graduate assistantships, and tuition waivers to support music majors at every level. All applicants who audition and are accepted into a music degree program are automatically considered for available scholarships and fellowships—no separate application is required.
Types of Funding Available
Graduate students in the DMA program may be eligible for Graduate Tuition Fellowships, awarded through the UH Graduate School. These fellowships cover in-state tuition and most mandatory fees and are based on enrollment and academic standing.
Out-of-state and international students who receive $1,000 or more in competitive University of Houston scholarships (including MSM awards) may receive a waiver of the out-of-state tuition portion, reducing their tuition to the in-state rate.
Prospective graduate students may apply for graduate assistantships when completing the Moores School of Music online application. Positions are offered in areas such as applied performance, conducting, piano accompanying, classroom instruction (musicology, theory), and administration (supporting MSM ensembles and operations). Assignments are based on the student’s area of study, experience, and program needs.
ⓘ Assistantships are considered employment and include a taxable monthly stipend paid over 9 months. Graduate assistantships are one-year appointments and may be renewed at MSM’s discretion up to a total of 2 years for MM students, 3 years for DMA students.
Students are not eligible for graduate assistantships. Assistantships do not activate out-of-state tuition waivers.

- Apply to and be accepted by both the University of Houston and the Moores School of Music
- Enter and remain a declared music major
- Be a full-time student in good standing and make appropriate progress toward a degree in music
- Students should also review their academic award agreement if receiving other UH scholarships
- Students selected for a music scholarship or fellowship will receive an official award notification in writing as part of their admission decision letter from the Moores School of Music.
- Students who remain eligible receive automatic annual renewal of their music scholarship at the same amount for the standard length of their degree program. See the table below for specific requirements.

HOW TO APPLY
No separate scholarship application is required. All auditioning applicants are automatically considered.
