The Office of Academic & Strategic Initiatives supports the mission of KGMCA through academic leadership and long-term planning. Key areas of responsibility include: 

Curriculum Development and Governance 

• Supports faculty-led processes for new courses, programs, and academic policies
• Oversees the College’s Undergraduate Curriculum Committee (UCC) and Graduate Curriculum Committee (GCC)
• Undergraduate Curriculum Committee: responsible for review of such matters as core curriculum, general curricula content, and development of interdisciplinary undergraduate programs; recommends to the Associate Dean courses, curricula, options, degree requirements, and other pertinent information normally included in the undergraduate catalog
• Graduate Curriculum Committee: responsible for review of such matters as graduate curriculum content and development of interdisciplinary undergraduate programs; recommends to the Associate Dean courses, curricula, options, degree requirements, and other pertinent information normally included in the graduate catalog
• Faculty Governance Committee: serves in an advisory capacity to the Dean, represents the faculty of the College, and meets at least once per semester. Provides the framework for an active partnership between faculty and administration in formulating recommendations and policies affecting the academic community
• Grievance Committee: serves as an advisory committee to the Dean in the review of grievances from faculty members and students
• Strategic Initiatives Working Group: oversees implementation of the College’s Strategic Plan, making recommendations, sharing best practices, seeking alignment among units, and recommending curriculum and programming

Annual Program Assessment Report (APAR) 

• Supports the APAR submission and review process
• APAR resources for faculty 

Strategic Planning and Implementation 

• Leads implementation of the College’s 5-Year Strategic Plan
• Facilitates progress tracking, reporting, and cross-unit alignment
• Oversees strategic working groups and campus-wide initiatives

Strategic Initiatives Working Group (SIWG) 

Established in 2023, SIWG is an open, college-wide forum of faculty, staff, and students working together to bring the Strategic Plan to life. 

Recent accomplishments include: 

• Launch of Student Wellness in the Arts (SWITA), a student-led initiative supporting mental health 
• Spanish-language outreach in admissions materials and Moores Opera House signage 
• Real-World Artist Mentorship Program (RAMP), pairing students with alumni mentors 
• Sync Up Fridays—career support and college-wide connection events
