UH Educators Host Summer Camps for Kids

Faculty from the University of Houston College of Education are helping run several camps focused on science, technology, engineering and math for elementary and middle school students. Find the STEM camp that's the right fit for your child:

iTECH-STEM Summer Technology Camp

Students entering grades 3 through 6 can boost their STEM skills at this two-week camp, iTECH-STEM, for Innovative Technology Challenges for Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics. Activities will incorporate digital storytelling, 3D-printing, computer programming and coding, and STEM art. The camp is sponsored by the University of Houston STEM Center and directed by faculty in the College of Education’s Department of Curriculum & Instruction.

Dates: June 3-14, 2019 (Monday through Friday)
Hours: 9 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. Extended hours may be available.
Cost: $400, including materials and snacks. Discounts are available for UH employees, teachers and siblings.

Elementary Explorers

Students in this one-week camp will work in teams to design their own mission to Mars and engineer a rover while completing engaging Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Mathematics (STEAM) activities. The camp, open to students in grades 3 through 6, follows a NASA-approved curriculum and is taught by Texas certified teachers. Students will have the opportunity to develop skills in teamwork, problem solving, strategic thinking and communications.

Dates: June 24-28, 2019
Hours: 8:30 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. (extended hours: 3:30 – 5 p.m.; additional charges apply)
Cost: $350 (regular hours); $400 (with extended hours). Includes all materials, daily lunches and snacks, plus a camp T-shirt and opportunities to win daily prizes.

Making HERstory: Guiding Girls Toward STEM

summer-camps-feature2.jpgThe goal of this one-week camp for students in grades 7 through 9 is to increase girls’ interest in science, technology, engineering and mathematics. Students will have the opportunity to work with a group to conduct a science experiment; learn the best questions to ask, ways to collect data and present their findings; work alongside 2019 Science Fair; and learn the science behind sports. The curriculum, designed by a finalist of the Intel International Science and Engineering Fair, is taught by Texas certified teachers.

Dates: July 15-19, 2019
Hours: 8:30 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. (extended hours: 3:30 – 5 p.m.; additional charges apply)
Cost: $350 (regular hours); $400 (with extended hours). Includes all materials, daily lunches and snacks, plus a camp T-shirt and opportunities to win daily prizes.

Operation Innovation
