LEADING THE WAY

The Department of Educational Leadership & Policy Studies at the University of Houston College of Education prepares compassionate, transformative leaders committed to the success of all students. As part of a Tier One public research university in a diverse, dynamic city, we strive to inform policy and practice to improve outcomes across the educational pipeline.

ELPS offers graduate programs for aspiring principals, superintendents, special education professionals, higher education administrators, policymakers and researchers. We also offer undergraduate minors in special populations and Asian American studies.

ELPS DEGREES & PROGRAMS

The department’s graduate-level programs help educators and other professionals specialize and advance their careers. Our minors help undergraduate students gain critical knowledge and stand out among their peers.

SHORT TAKES

Kristi Santi, an associate professor in the special population program, has received The President’s Volunteer Service award from AmeriCorps for her work to better the educational outcomes of students with disabilities.

Mandelé Aubrey-Davis, a doctoral student in the professional leadership — K-12 program and a principal at Aldine ISD’s Eisenhower Senior High School, has been named the Texas Art Education Association Principal of the Year.

Kmt Shockey, a professor in the professional leadership – K-12 program, received a Critics’ Choice Book Award from the American Educational Studies Association. The award was for “African-Centered Education: Theory and Practice,” the 2020 book he edited with Bardo Distinguished Professor Kofi Lomotey of Western Carolina University.

Dave Louis, an associate professor in the higher education program, has been named one of the 2021 Outstanding Alumni honorees for the College of Education and Human Development at Texas A&M University, where he received a Ph.D. in educational administration in 2004.

Associate Professor Bradley Davis and Clinical Associate Professor Kristen Hassett were selected for the 2021-22 UH Cougar Chairs Leadership Academy, a professional development opportunity to develop leadership skills to promote student success.
