HEALTH Research Institute

The HEALTH Research Institute was established in 2017 to advance innovative research in health for Houston communities and beyond. HRI is focused on developing rapid translation models to bring basic biomedical science into prevention, early detection, diagnosis, and intervention strategies through partnerships with community-based organizations, healthcare agencies, stakeholders, and community members.

HRI leverages an interdisciplinary group of researchers at the University of Houston to conduct cutting-edge research across a broad range of health challenges.

The HEALTH Research Institute houses the HEALTH Center for Addictions Research and Cancer Prevention, funded by NIMHD.

Advancing Health Science

Our primary mission is to conduct innovative research that presents novel prevention and intervention strategies to combat a broad range of health challenges such as obesity, substance abuse and cancer.

Learning from the Community

By leveraging expertise from interdisciplinary scientists across six academic units and input from the community, we apply scientific capabilities and determine solutions to address the health needs of Houston, the state of Texas and beyond.

Solving Complex Problems

Through active partnerships with our community advisory boards, stakeholders, elected officials and community members, we are uniquely positioned to tackle health challenges through multi-site cooperative trials, and other health initiatives.
