Honors Orientation FAQ

Orientation FAQ

How do I register for orientation?
You will need to register with the Office of Admissions for a summer orientation conference.
Is Honors orientation the same as UH orientation?
Orientation for the Honors College coincides with the University orientation provided by the University's Office of Admissions. You will participate in the activities provided by the University, and, if you are already accepted to Honors, you will also receive one-on-one registration assistance from Honors advisors and current Honors students.
Do I need to register separately for Honors College orientation and UH orientation?
No, students who register for and attend an orientation will simply be directed to The Honors College at the appropriate times during the conference. If you have questions about your reservation status with the University, contact the Office of Admissions at admissions@uh.edu or 713.743.1010. You will receive an online form from an Honors advisor asking about your intended major and any college credit you are bringing in with you; be sure to submit that form prior to attending Orientation.
How will I receive advising for Honors courses?
The Honors College conducts advising and registration for its new students as part of the UH orientation conferences. Refer to the Office of Admissions website for a list of dates. Students are invited to the Honors College after 4 p.m. on the first day of each conference to sign up for an advising time. On the second day, all new Honors students return to the Honors College for advising and registration.
What if I'm a transfer student?
Transfer students should attend a transfer orientation conference, called Advising and Registration for Transfers (ART). Honors students will be directed to The Honors College for advising during the ART conference.
In what foreign language level do I begin if I took a foreign language in high school?
Students who have completed two or more years of foreign language in high school are required to take a language placement exam without credit before enrolling in a foreign language course. It is recommended that Houston-area students take the language placement exam before attending orientation. The exams can be arranged by contacting the University Testing Services office at 713.743.5444. Students also may schedule a placement exam for the afternoon of the second day of the orientation conference; however, space may be limited.
What is the last registration deadline?
The Honors College participates in all orientation conferences, so as long as you register for an orientation, you will be advised and be able to enroll.
What do I need to bring to orientation?
First, read the University and Honors College Core Curriculum Requirements. These requirements apply to all Honors students and will help you to understand the advising process at orientation. Second, you are required to take the math placement exam prior to attending an orientation conference. You may also need to take a TSI assessment (to satisfy TSI requirements), unless you are exempt.
