Residents

The resident population of the University of Houston has grown significantly. Residents of campus may generate regulated waste in their daily activities, or may have hobbies and pasttimes that generate regulated waste. In most cases these items are regulated as municipal solid waste from residences, and enjoy significantly relaxed regulation. Some examples of these items include:

  • Paints from art and hobby activities
  • Batteries from electronics
  • Aerosol cans from cleaning and personal hygiene
  • Household cleaning chemicals

In some cases, residents may undertake hobbies and activities that generate substantial quantities of regulated wastes. In all cases, consult with your residence hall staff to determine whether these activities are appropriate. If necessary they can contact EHS to make arrangements for the disposal of any regulated waste that does not fall under municipal solid waste regulations.
