Application Checklist Ed.D. in Professional Leadership

Eligibility Requirements

 

Master’s Degree

any field of study

Minimum 2.6 GPA

3.0 preferred

The GRE is not required for this program.

 

For international students: This program does not meet the requirements for studying in the U.S. with an F-1 or J-1 visa.

 

Application Materials

Applicants must submit the following application and materials to be considered for admission into the Ed.D. in Professional Leadership program.

Main Application

The following materials should be submitted through the ApplyWeb application:

Your resume should include your academic history, professional experience, and, if applicable, any relevant research and publications.

Upload a PDF of your official transcript for initial review. If admitted, you must have your official transcripts sent directly to UH. View transcript instructions.

A recommender should be able to comment on your academic potential in graduate school and leadership potential in the field of study. You will provide contact information for references and they will receive an email with instructions.

Write a statement of interest that addresses the following:

  • Provide information about you (briefly).
  • Discuss why you want to pursue the Ed.D.
  • Indicate why you are interested in the specialization you have indicated (K-12 leadership, literacy education, special populations, or health science education) at the University of Houston specifically (why this degree is instrumental in your efforts to achieve your goals as an educational leader) in your field.
  • Describe your research interests.

Format:

  • Maximum of 3 pages, double-spaced
  • Times New Roman font (12 point)
  • 1-inch margins

Please provide an academic writing sample, such as a paper you completed in your master’s degree program. 

 

Requirements:

  • Maximum of 50 pages, double-spaced
  • Must have pagination
  • Papers written in a language other than English require an English translation
  • Applicants must be the first or solo author of the work

  • $50 for domestic applicants
  • $80 for international applicants

All graduate applicants, regardless of citizenship status, must demonstrate proficiency in English to obtain admission to UH. Many applicants meet this requirement based on earning an undergraduate degree in the United States and do not need to submit documentation beyond their transcript. The following materials should be submitted through the Certification Supplemental Application only for the K-12 specialization with Superintendent or Principal Certification:

You can save a PDF version of your certificate from your TEAL account or via the SBEC search.

Must include signature from HR representative and demonstrate two years of teaching experience either at the time of acceptance or upon program completion.

Interview

Select applicants in the following specializations may be contacted for an inverview:

  • Health Science
  • K-12 (case-by-case basis to clarify materials)
  • Literacy (case-by-case basis to clarify materials)
  • Special Populations

The admissions committee will notify the applicant directly regarding the date, time and scope.

 

Admissions Decisions

  • Applicants will receive email confirmation via ApplyWeb when all required documents have been received.
  • Admission decisions will be posted in ApplyWeb. You must formally accept your admissions offer in ApplyWeb in order to enroll.
