3 years

of teaching experience

The GRE is not required for this program.

 

For international students: This program does not meet the requirements for studying in the U.S. with an F-1 or J-1 visa.

 

Application Materials

Applicants must submit the following 2 applications and respective materials to be considered for admission into the Educational Diagnostician Certification program.

Main Application

The following materials should be submitted through the ApplyWeb application:

Your resume should include your academic history, professional experience, and, if applicable, any relevant research and publications.

Upload a PDF of your official transcript for initial review. If admitted, you must have your official transcripts sent directly to UH. View transcript instructions.

A recommender should be able to comment on your academic potential in graduate school and leadership potential in the field of study. You will provide contact information for references and they will receive an email with instructions.

Certification in the special populations programs focuses on supporting and/or assessing students with suspected or identified disabilities.

 

In your statement of intent, all applicants should be sure to address the following questions:

  • What are your skills and aptitudes related to working with special populations? Include a discussion of your experiences, strengths and weaknesses, skillset, and plan for the future.
  • Why do you want to become an educational diagnostician?
  • What is your philosophy for working with students with special needs?
  • What role should assessment have in the schools?
  • What is your reflective process?
  • Explain how you meet the prerequisites for the program:
    • Specifically, discuss your valid teacher certification and your service credit.
    • If you have fewer than three years of creditable service in a public, charter, or TEPSAC-accredited private school, discuss your plan for meeting this requirement while you complete this program.

  • Maximum of 3 pages, double-spaced
  • Times New Roman font (12 point)
  • 1-inch margins

The application fee is $25.

All graduate applicants, regardless of citizenship status, must demonstrate proficiency in English to obtain admission to UH. Many applicants meet this requirement based on earning an undergraduate degree in the United States and do not need to submit documentation beyond their transcript. You can save a PDF version of your certificate from your TEAL account or via the SBEC search.

Must include signature from HR representative and demonstrate three years of teaching experience either at the time of acceptance or upon program completion.

Admissions Decisions

  • Applicants will receive email confirmation via ApplyWeb when all required documents have been received.
  • Admission decisions will be posted in ApplyWeb. You must formally accept your admissions offer in ApplyWeb in order to enroll.
