Music (Areas of Elective Studies) Major

Bachelor of Music Areas of Elective Studies: Teacher Certification (Instrumental or Choral), Marketing, or Religion

 

In addition to all university and college requirements, students must complete the following:

Four hours at the freshman, sophomore, and junior levels; and two hours at the senior level including senior recital

Note: Elective Studies in Teacher Certification (instrumental or Choral) results in a Texas All-Level (EC-12) Certification.

In addition to the common courses, each student seeking this degree must fulfill the additional requirements for one of the four elective studies areas listed below. At least 36 total hours need to be at the advanced level. See the music advisor for more details.

    (Woodwind, Brass, Percussion, Strings)
  2. Elective Studies in Teacher Certification: Choral Program
    (Voice, Piano, Organ) (Note: Elective Studies in Teacher Certification (instrumental or Choral) results in a Texas All-Level (EC-12) Certification.)
  3. Elective Studies in Music Marketing
  4. Elective Studies in Religion

(1) Elective Studies in Teacher Certification: Instrumental Program (Woodwind, Brass, Percussion, Strings)

Students must make special application to the College of Education in order to enter the teacher certification program. Also, certain core courses must be specifically selected from the options listed in the catalogue. See the coordinator of music education for more details.

Large ensemble for woodwind, brass, and percussion students must include at least two semesters of marching band. (Strings students are exempt.)
