CONSTITUTION OF THE
STAFF COUNCIL
OF
UNIVERSITY OF HOUSTON

ARTICLE 1:   NAME

The name of this organization shall be the University of Houston Staff Council herein after referred to as “Staff Council.”

ARTICLE 2:   PURPOSE

SECT. 1  The Staff Council shall be an advisory body to the University of Houston Administration, to promote a positive and meaningful interchange among staff, faculty, and students.

SECT 2 .  To promote recognition of the staff contribution to the mission of the University of Houston and to involve the staff in decisions affecting their activities.

ARTICLE 3:   AUTHORITY AND FUNDING

SECT. 1   Staff Council receives its authority from the Staff at the University of Houston.

SECT. 2   Staff Council receives its funds from allocations from the office of the President, University of Houston and funds generated from its own sources.

ARTICLE 4:   AMENDMENTS

SECT. 1   Any staff council member may propose an amendment to this constitution by submitting to the secretary his or her written proposal with signatures of five (5) additional staff council members indicating their support of the amendment. The secretary shall distribute a copy of the proposed amendment to all staff council members at least five working days before the next scheduled staff council meeting.

SECT. 2   The proposed amendment shall be discussed at the first executive board meeting after the proposed amendment is distributed to the council members.

SECT. 3   The proposed amendment shall be placed on the agenda of the next two regularly scheduled meetings for discussion during the first meeting and discussion and vote during the second meeting. The constitution will be amended upon the positive vote of two-thirds (2/3) of the council members present at the second meeting.
