Internal Awards Process
This list outlines the key steps from RFA announcement to award closeout, including mandatory research compliance requirements (IRB, IACUC, BioSafety, Radiation Safety). Funding is released only after all applicable approvals are secured, and any unused funds revert to the Division of Research upon expiration. Final progress reports are due within one month of the award end date.
Step 1. RFA Announcement
The Request for Applications (RFA) is publicly announced.
Step 2. Proposal Submission Deadline
Submit your proposal by the deadline stated in the RFA.
Step 3. Award Letters Sent
Successful applicants receive official award letters.
Important Compliance Step (if applicable)
Before funds can be released, all required research compliance approvals must be completed and documented. This includes:
- IRB approval for research involving human subjects
- IACUC approval for research involving animal subjects
- BioSafety approval for work with recombinant DNA (rDNA), cells/tissues, microorganisms, or biological toxins
- Radiation Safety approval for use of X-ray equipment, lasers, or radioisotopes
Submit compliance documentation to: grc@central.uh.edu
Note: Funding will be withheld until all necessary research compliance requirements have been met.
Step 4. Funds Become Available
Once all compliance requirements (if any) are satisfied, awarded funds are released and become available for use. For questions about funding availability, contact: dorbizop@central.uh.edu
Step 5. Award Expiration
The award reaches its end date. Any unused funds at this point revert back to the Division of Research (DOR).
Step 6. Progress Reports Due
