Professor Paulsen does research on operator algebras, frame theory and quantum information and computing(QIC). His research on QIC took him to the Isaac Newton Institute at Cambridge University where he was a Visiting Fellow in Fall 2013. He is currently collaborating with a group of mathematicians, physicists and computer scientists on a problem in the foundations of quantum mechanics. His research is supported in part by the NSF, EPSRC and the Royal Society.
