Used Cooking Oil
Food service operations often generate used cooking oil from frying, oil-braising, and other operations that leave the oil in the "back of the house". Fortunately this oil can be refined for use as an ingredient or for energy recovery. Many food service locations at the University maintain used cooking oil "rendering" bins at their establishment. These bins are subject to spill planning requirements, and EHS must be notified prior to their placement.
If you're a resident or a student group that is cooking, take a look at the City of Houston's recommendations. Unfortunately each rendering bin is part of an agreement between a food service vendor and a servicing company, EHS does not currently maintain used cooking oil recycling capability of its own.
