PROGRAM BENEFITS

Grow your confidence and skills as a STEM educator through our hands-on, research-based training. As a STELLAR fellow, you’ll learn strategies to boost student achievement, gain insights from education and industry experts, and build a lasting network of supportive teachers and mentors. Certified teachers will receive a stipend, and those seeking certification through UH’s Alternative Certification Program can qualify for tuition support. Together, we’re strengthening STEM education and shaping brighter futures!

STELLAR = STEM Teacher Training: Enhancing Learning, Leadership, and Academic Rigor

PROGRAM ELIGIBILITY

STELLAR offers two pathways based on certification status:

Certified Teachers

  • Must teach middle school math or science at a Title I campus in Houston ISD, KIPP-Houston or Spring ISD
  • Teaching experience should not exceed five years

Teachers Pursuing Certification

  • Bachelor’s degree with 15 credit hours in science or math 
  • Must be accepted into the UH Alternative Certification Program
  • While pursuing certification, must be hired as a middle school math or science teacher at a Title I campus within Houston ISD, KIPP-Houston or Spring ISD

HOW TO APPLY

  • Complete the brief STELLAR application. Be prepared to answer these questions: What strengths would you bring to the program? How would participating in the program support your professional goals as a teacher? (responses: 150 words maximum)
  • Non-certified teachers: You must ALSO apply to the UH Alternative Certification Program. Select Houston ISD, KIPP-Houston, or Spring ISD as your preferred district. Select mathematics or science as your desired certification area.
