Bass Pro Shop donates 150,000 to the Division of Student Affairs

The Division of Student Affairs, with the University of Houston (UH) Advancement team, seeks out donors to help meet our students' needs. The Advancement team received a generous gift from Bass Pro of $150,000. This gift will be allocated for five $5,000 scholarships each over a six-year period.

This charitable donation for student scholarships is based on criterion that requires students be enrolled at UH and participants in the Center for Student Empowerment (CSE). The students must also major in professional sales, hospitality, business, or supply chain to be considered. They must maintain a minimum GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 grading scale and have earned at least 60 credit hours towards obtaining their bachelor's degree. The Bass Pro Shop was founded in 1977 by Johnny Morris. Johnny’s story is inspirational, as he is a man who started his career from very humble beginnings and the generosity that the company has shown to the University of Houston is appreciated.

Bass Pro believes in community commitment and doing good together. They are dedicated to helping their neighbors and honoring our heroes. On their website they state that they want to give back to their community. They also state that they proudly champion local causes close to their hearts and that they support causes that are close to the hearts of their customers and team members. They support people, places, and organizations that make our communities stronger and more vibrant. Therefore, they have chosen to support the University of Houston students because they believe in education and helping students in need reach their goals.
