UH Users: Students, Faculty and Staff

Maintaining the integrity of the University of Houston brand depends upon the consistent, correct use of the University’s trademarks by everyone within the University of Houston community. Students, faculty and staff should follow the guidelines on this page when creating communications and other materials bearing University of Houston brands. General Brand Use Guidelines for University of Houston Students, Faculty and Staff

All University of Houston faculty, staff and students may use the University logos as outlined below:

Academic Use

(i.e. reports, research grants, proposals, other business or academic related documents

Internal – if the document is not to be circulated outside the university, UH Branding Review and approval is not required

External – if the document is to be circulated outside the university (local, regional, national, or international), all branding guidelines must be applied and brand approval is required.

Marketing Use

All marketing materials must comply with the UH brand guidelines and receive brand approval.

Partnerships Use

If you are working with an external partner, please refer to the External Users page for more guidance.

Promotional Items & Merchandise for Resale

All promotional items (i.e., swag, t-shirts, mugs, pens, etc.) must be purchased through a licensed vendor. For more information on licensing of merchandise for internal promotional use, please refer to the Licensing page for more guidance.

Student Organizations

More than 500 student organizations are recognized by the Center for Student Involvement, and these organizations order a high volume of promotional items each academic year.

To ensure your Student Organization is following UH brand and trademark policies, please visit the UH Brand & Student Organization page and download the Student Organization Brand Guide for reference.

If your student organization is not yet registered, please contact the Center for Student Involvement.

NOTE: 'Student Organizations' refers to all Registered Student Organizations (RSOs), University Student Organizations (USOs), UH Sponsored Student Organizations (UHSSOs), Affiliated Student Organizations (ASOs) or any other student organizations operating on-the UH campus.

Faculty & Staff Usage

University of Houston Faculty members can use the information below to ensure their email and written communications comply with University of Houston brand guidelines.

Email Signature Guidelines

The email you send from “uh.edu” is considered an official University communication and your email signature is a representation of the UH brand.

UH e-mail signatures must be concise and only include the following information:

Name (Pronouns optional)
Job title
College/School or Department name
University name
Phone number
Website (optional)

Font
Trebuchet, 10 point

Color
Black type except the name of the University in red.

Dos and Don’ts

Alumni
UH is proud of its alumni, they may add their graduation year after their name.

Examples:

Jane Doe (’14) - undergraduate degree
Jane Doe, (J.D. ’18) - graduate degree
Jane Doe, (’14, J.D. ’18) - dual degree

Background color
Do not use watermarks, colors, or photographic backgrounds. White is the only admissible background color.

Committees
Do not add committees to the email signature.

Confidentiality clause

If you work with confidential information, the confidentiality clause may be included at the bottom of the email signature.

Example

Confidentiality Notice: The information in this e-mail may be confidential and/or privileged. If you are not the intended recipient, any review, dissemination, or copying of this e-mail and its attachments, if any, or the information contained herein is prohibited. If you have received this e-mail in error, please immediately notify the sender by return e-mail and delete this e-mail from your computer.

Fax numbers
Fax numbers are not required, if used, it is placed below the office phone number.

Logos, quotes, and taglines
Do not use quotes, taglines, and logos in email signature.

Private practice
State rules preclude university employees from using public resources to promote private entities. Do not list other employment in university email signature.

Professional degrees, licenses, or certifications
Professional degrees, licenses and/or certifications may be included, it is placed directly after the name.

Example: John Doe, Ph.D.

Social Media
Do not include social media links or icon images in email signatures.

University of Houston Stationery

Choosing the Right Logo

The strength of the University of Houston Master Brand enhances the stature and benefits every unit and program within the University. The UH Logo System uses specific arrangements of University logos and wordmarks to clearly indicate each unit’s and program’s relationship to the UH Master Brand. Contact Brand Management, Licensing & Trademarks at branding@central.uh.edu to request an approved logo for your unit or program.

Stationery

The University of Houston Office of Copy, Print and Delivery Services supplies all official UH correspondence materials, including stationery, envelopes, business cards and note cards and has developed a full range of these materials employing the University’s refreshed brand identifiers.
