The College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences and The Honors College offer interdisciplinary courses that fall outside normal departmental boundaries. Students in The Honors College may take these courses to fulfill certain degree requirements as well as to qualify for graduation with either membership in The Honors College or with University Honors and Honors in Major. HON 2101: The Human Situation: Modernity
Cr. 1. (1-0). Corequisite: ENGL 2361. Required for students with membership in the university's Honors College. Discussion of readings from: Machiavelli, Bacon, Descartes, Hobbes, Swift, Rousseau, Goethe, Flaubert.

HON 2301: The Human Situation: Antiquity
Cr. 3. (3-0). Required for students with membership in the university's Honors College. Prerequisite: Grade of C+ or higher in ENGL 1303 or placement by the Honors College. Corequisite: ENGL 1370 or HON 2370. Combination of lectures and discussion. Readings from Homer, Sophocles, Aristophanes, Plato, and the Bible.

HON 3301: Readings in Medicine and Society
Cr. 3. (3-0). Prerequisite: ENGL 1304. The study of medicine as a social practice, including medical ethics, public health policy, the history of health care, and the cultural context of medical practice.

Cr. 3. (3-0). Prerequisite: ENGL 1304. Emerging material cultures of medicine in order to understand their effects on the relationship between healthcare providers and their patients.

Cr. 3. (3-0). Provides a creative and critical view of art, dance, film, music, literature, and theater.

Cr. 3. (3-0). Review of major leadership theories designed to incorporate research, practice, skill-building, and direct application to real world scenarios.

HON 3397: Honors Selected Topics
Cr. 3 per semester. (3-0). Prerequisite: approval of the dean of the Honors College. May be repeated for credit when topics vary.

HON 3399: Senior Honors Thesis
Cr. 3 per semester. (3-0). Prerequisite: approval of dean of the Honors College. For interdisciplinary topic.

HON 4130: E-Portfolio
Cr. 1. (1-0). Prerequisite: approval of dean of the Honors College. Students will create an electronic portfolio of personalized reflection pieces, best papers, leadership and service experiences, research activities, awards, etc.

HON 4198: Independent Study
Cr. 1 per semester or more by concurrent enrollment. Prerequisite: approval of the Associate Dean of the Honors College.

HON 4298: Independent Study
Cr. 2 per semester or more by concurrent enrollment. Prerequisite: approval of the Associate Dean of the Honors College.

HON 4310: City Dionysia: Attic Drama in the Modern City
Cr. 3. (3-0). Prerequisite: ENGL 1304 or equivalent. History and analysis of Greek theater for students performing and participating in the City Dionysia project. A capstone course for the Creative Work Minor.

HON 4315: Artists and Their Regions: Creative Work in Performance and Context
Cr. 3. (3-0). Prerequisite: ENGL 1304 or equivalent. The context and impact of art and literature in a particular geographical region, usually Texas, the American South, or Latin-America. Includes travel and field experience.

HON 4360: Capstone Seminar on Globalization
Cr. 3. (3-0). Prerequisite: ENGL 1304 or equivalent. Interdisciplinary reading and research seminar on economic, cultural, political, and technological processes of "globalization." General readings on globalization, specialized readings on specific topics, and an individual research project.

HON 4390: Antiquity Revisited
Cr. 3. (3-0). Prerequisite: HON 2301. Advanced interdisciplinary topics for reading and discussion with selected faculty. An exploration of great books from the Greek and Judeo-Christian traditions. May be repeated for credit when topics vary.

HON 4391: Modernity Revisited
Cr. 3. (3-0). Prerequisite: HON 2101. Advanced interdisciplinary topics for reading and discussion with selected faculty. An exploration of great books from Dante to the present. May be repeated for credit when topics vary.

HON 4398: Independent Study
Cr. 3 per semester or more by concurrent enrollment. Prerequisite: approval of the Associate Dean of the Honors College.

HON 4399: Senior Honors Thesis
