Asian American Studies Minor
A minor in Asian American Studies (AAS) requires a minimum of 15 semester hours of course work, of which 9 must be advanced. Nine (9) semester hours must be taken in residence, six (6) of which must be advanced. Students must earn a 2.00 minimum cumulative grade point average on courses attempted in the AAS minor at the University of Houston.
All students are required to take the following courses (6 hours) in this minor:
In addition, students must successfully complete nine (9) semester hours to be taken from the Human and Social Sciences, from which at least 6 semesters hours must be taken at the upper level 3000-4000. Students may choose from the following courses: ANTH 2302, 2304, 3363, 4343, AMER 3300, ARCH 3358, COMM 3375, 3379, CUST 3310, 3315, 3390, 3397, 4320, 4321, 4397, CHNS 2301, 2302, 3350, 3352, ECON 3355, ENGL 2323, 2325, HIST 3395, HLT 3330, 3380, JPNS 2501, 2502, POLS 3323, 4320, 4321, 4322, PSYC 2380, RELS 3380, SOC 2325, 3327, 3397, WCL 3397.
Note: On occasion, new courses including selected topics will be added to this list as they are developed. Other appropriate courses may be approved for this minor by petition. These courses or special topics must contain or deal with issues relevant to Asian American Studies in order to be approved for the Minor.
