Faculty Development Leave

The College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences awards Faculty Development leaves to full-time, tenured members of the faculty engaged in scholarly research and creative or artistic projects according to the guidelines below.

CLASS Project Completion Grant Application

The purpose of the Project Completion Grant Program is to assist CLASS faculty with the publication of Books (i.e. editing/indexing, publication subvention). The purposes covered from this program are expanded from the past, and include the “last data acquisition trip,” or other research purposes needed to complete an ongoing project. Normally funds under this program will be directed toward projects within about two years of completion. Applications are accepted twice a year: Friday October 13, 2017 and by Friday February 2, 2018. The maximum award under this program is $4,000.

To apply please complete the project description as well as budget justification below. The project description is expected to emphasize the academic or creative merit of the project, and thus should include documentation available including contracts, and reviews if available. The budget justification should describe how the listed expenses will assist in completion of your project. Research Progress Grant Application

The CLASS Dean’s Office is accepting applications for grants to further faculty research. This Program will provide up to $4,000 per individual or up to $12,000 per group for research assistance, travel, data and information collection, or other activities that will further publication or performance. This program is open to tenure and tenure track faculty, or non-tenure track faculty with research as part of their regular job duties. Applications may be submitted by an individual or groups of two or three researchers (no more than three individuals per group).  The grant funds may be used for any legitimate research purpose except faculty salaries. Payments to graduate students are permitted, as are funds for travel (not conferences), to pay experimental subjects, or any other needed expense. The maximum award is $4,000 per individual whether submitted individually or as a group.

Applications will have a maximum length of two double spaced pages of 12 point type. Additionally, proposals require a budget, a budget justification, and a 2 page CV. Applicants will be awarded funds based on the academic merit of the work. Faculty are urged to consider that the CLASS Research Committee will do the first round of reviews, thus the proposals should be aimed at  a  general academic audience. The application deadline is Friday,  October 13, 2017, at 5 pm.

Recipients of the CLASS Research Progress Grants are required to submit a report describing how the research grant furthered their research by  August 31, 2018.

Dean's Collaborative Interdisciplinary Summer Research Award for International Engagement

The Dean's Collaborative Interdisciplinary Summer Research Grant serves to foster interdisciplinary international engagement among roster faculty in CLASS. The intent of this award is to assist in collaborations and must yield the development of a co-authored work or proposed course on the region. There must be three colleagues involved. At least two must be a roster faculty member of within a different department and/or program within CLASS, and all must be faculty members within CLASS.

Proposing faculty members are to submit an application that details the nature of the collaboration, intended outcome(s), international location engaged, and proposed timeline for the outcome(s).

There will be one $10,000 award given annually. Faculty clusters may receive this award only once.
