What's New for 2026

Centennial Construction Project & Traffic Updates

The Update: The University of Houston is in the final phase of the ambitious Centennial Construction Project. As part of this transformation, University Drive (west of Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd.) is closed to vehicular traffic through 2026, impacting pedestrian flows, drop-off points and entry points into the Student Center.

What You Need To Do: Review the interactive construction fencing map and resources to navigate the campus successfully. The hub includes guidance on updated pedestrian paths, temporary shuttle stops, and parking tips.

Micromobility Policy Updates

The Update: UH is implementing a phased strategy for e-scooters, e-bikes, and personal mobility devices to manage rising safety risks, such as lithium-ion battery fires and pedestrian conflicts.

What You Need To Do:

• Register Your Device: To deter theft and confirm ownership, you must register your bike or scooter.  
• Check Your Battery: The university strictly prohibits devices that are not UL-rated. Ensure your battery meets UL 2849, 2272, or 2271 certifications.
• No Indoor Charging: Charging and storing your micromobility devices indoors (including residence halls) is prohibited to mitigate fire hazards.
• Ride and Park Safely: You must walk your devices through designated dismount zones in congested campus cores. When not riding, use designated parking corrals to keep doorways, stairs, and ADA-accessible ramps entirely clear.
