A big change in corporate opinions from last year is that 81% cited “artificial intelligence and machine learning” as either “very important” or “extremely important” to their company’s future, up from just 54% in 2016. The McKinsey Global Institute indicates that data driven organizations are 23 times more likely to acquire customers, 6 times as likely to retain those customers, and 19 times as likely to be profitable as a result. So AI is not just an academic exercise anymore. But typical AI projects and deployments are batch oriented affairs. Software engineers know about TDD and CI/CD. Data scientists don’t. Data scientists know about R, prediction versus deterministic/ statistical, model selection, data training. Put these together and you get Continuous Intelligence delivery in which teams produce models and software in short cycles, ensuring that the software can be reliably released at any time.
