Speaker: Giulia Toti, King’s College London

Host: Dr. Shishir Shah

Introduction to Machine Learning: during this guest lecture, Giulia is going to offer an overview of the principles of Machine Learning, with particular emphasis on the learning process and possible applications. Then she will introduce the class to a simple learning algorithm, the perceptron, and show how it can be trained and applied. The talk with conclude with an overview of the basic principles behind Artificial Neural Networks and Deep Learning.

Bio:

Giulia Toti is currently a postdoctoral researcher in the Addiction department at King's College London, which she joined after being awarded with the PhD in Computer Science at the University of Houston in 2016. Previously, she completed her MS in Biomedical Engineering at the Polytechnic of Turin. Her work focuses on development and application of machine learning techniques to the medical field, with particular attention to risk analysis, prognostic models, and mining of large databases of electronic health records.
