Departmental Requirements
The Bachelor of Science and Bachelor of Arts degree in biology and biochemistry require that:
- No biology or biochemistry course with a grade below C- be used as a prerequisite for a more advanced biology or biochemistry course;
- Students with more than six hours below C- in biology or biochemistry courses not be allowed to enroll in subsequent biology or biochemistry courses without written permission from the undergraduate advisor.
All undergraduate biology and biochemistry majors are encouraged to meet with an undergraduate advisor prior to enrollment (registration) each term.
Prerequisites for all biology and biochemistry courses are strictly enforced.

NSM Capstone Requirement: 6–21 hours
(Currently any approved minor satisfies this requirement)
May be satisfied by completing one of the following:
- a double major, or
- a double or previous degree, or
- a senior research project, or
- a senior honors thesis, or
- 6 hours of NSM designated interdisciplinary capstone courses, or
- an approved minor, or
- 9 hours from this list: INDE 4333, DISC 4332, 4364, 4368, 4370, 4371, 4374. 4375, 4377, 4378.
Students should consult the Academic Regulations and Degree Requirements section of the University of Houston Undergraduate Catalog for general information on the requirements for minors. Students must earn a 2.00 minimum cumulative grade point average on all courses attempted in the minor discipline at the University of Houston. Courses which by catalog statement cannot be applied toward a degree in Natural Sciences and Mathematics, or which have other relevant catalog restrictions will not be included in the minor grade point average.
