With the impending inclement weather in the coming week, and in the event the University can't be accessed, EHS wants to remind everyone of important safety measures when preparing your laboratory:
- Ensure all laboratory personnel are signed up to receive UH Alerts to stay abreast of the University’s status of open or closed.
- Assess all ongoing experiments and terminate experiments that require interaction, oversight, or additional input that you could not provide remotely.
- Keep laboratories and offices locked to prevent theft or unauthorized access.
- Unplug hotplates and other unused equipment to save energy and eliminate fire risks.
- Store all chemicals, biological agents, and hazardous materials properly in approved containers in their designated storage locations.
- Label containers properly, including waste, to avoid confusion about contents.
- Remove the clutter from fume hoods/biosafety cabinets and keep hood sashes closed.
