Dr. Daniel M. Maxwell
Interim Vice President for Student Affairs

Greetings,

On behalf of the University of Houston, I am pleased to present the Executive Summary, highlighting the remarkable achievements of the Division of Student Affairs from 2019 through the spring of 2023. As the Interim Vice President of Student Affairs, I am proud to share the progress we have made in advancing our strategic goals of Student Success, Division Cohesion, Resources, and Partnerships.

Our commitment to enhancing student success has yielded remarkable results. We have implemented a range of initiatives and programs aimed at supporting students' academic, personal, and professional growth. Through our data-driven approach, we have witnessed positive trends, including increased graduation rates, improved retention, and enhanced student satisfaction.

Furthermore, we have made significant strides in fostering division cohesion, ensuring that our departments collaborate effectively and align with our overarching mission. By promoting cross-functional teamwork, professional development opportunities, and open communication channels, we have created a harmonious environment that encourages innovation and collective success.

Recognizing the critical role of resources in delivering high-quality services, we have diligently pursued strategies to secure the necessary funding and infrastructure. During the 2019-2023 period, our division raised over $22 million through philanthropic efforts, a testament to the generosity of our community and our unwavering commitment to providing exceptional support to our students.

Partnerships have been instrumental in our achievements, as we have fostered strong collaborations both within the university and with external stakeholders. By forging strategic alliances with academic departments, faculty, alumni, local businesses, and community organizations, we have expanded our reach, resources, and opportunities for our students.

It is important to acknowledge the impact of the global pandemic on our operations. While we faced unprecedented challenges, we swiftly adapted to ensure the continuity of our mission. Through innovative virtual services, increased mental health support, and flexible learning options, we have remained steadfast in our dedication to serving our students and promoting their well-being. As we move forward, we are excited to kick off our next strategic plan, building upon the successes of the past years. Our commitment to continuous improvement remains unwavering, as we aim to refine our strategies, strengthen our partnerships, and embrace emerging technologies to better serve our diverse student population.

In closing, I extend my heartfelt gratitude to all the dedicated staff, faculty, students, alumni, and partners who have contributed to the remarkable achievements of the Division of Student Affairs. Together, we have made a lasting impact on the lives of our students and their educational journey. I invite you to review this Executive Summary for a comprehensive overview of our accomplishments, and I look forward to the continued success that lies ahead.
