The success and safety of University of Houston students is of utmost importance to the Division of Student Affairs and the greater campus community. Frequently Asked Questions

To support student success, the university strongly encourages first-year students to live on campus. Student Housing & Residential Life offers housing for students at all class levels to support their student success, everything from traditional residence halls to apartment living.

Students should apply online as soon as possible. Spaces are acquired on a first-come, first-serve basis. First-time student housing applicants will pay an application fee of $50 and prepayment of $300 during the online application process.

Once students have electronically signed their housing agreement they will be able to select their own room. New student housing applicants will have the opportunity to utilize our RoomSync process to match up with a chosen roommate and select a room.

Cougar Cash supplements your student's allowance and can be used at all of the retail locations on campus. The Cougar Cash purchases are deducted from your student's account balance. Please see Dining Services or the Cougar Card office for additional information.

You may contact the Health Center or Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) to schedule an appointment. The staff is well-trained and ready to help you with any concerns.

Visit the Campus Recreation and Wellness Center on campus or online to learn about their fitness, aquatic, and intramural offerings. You will need your Cougar Card to enter the facility.

University Career Services can assist with both on- and off-campus employment opportunities. They can also help with your resume, cover letters, and interviewing skills so you feel fully prepared for your job search.

With over 560 student organizations, the Center for Student Involvement (CSI) has information and resources on how to get involved on campus. Attend Cat's Back and the Involvement Fairs at the beginning of fall semester, and visit CSI's website to learn about campus events and how to connect with student organizations.
