Admissions

Required Materials

  1. A completed graduate studies application. The University of Houston is switching to a new graduate application system. Please click the following link to access the application starting August 1st: Psychology Graduate Program Application
  2. An official transcript from each institution attended.
  3. One official copy of your general GRE test scores*. Please have your GRE scores sent by ETS (Educational Testing Service) to the University of Houston, University Park Campus (Code: 6870). The Department of Psychology will only accept official GRE scores sent from ETS.
  4. Three letters of recommendation.
  5. A career statement, please include two faculty members with whom you wish to work during your graduate school process.
  6. A $50.00 non-refundable processing fee is due at the time of your application submission. Fee must be paid online via CollegeNet.

*The GRE provides objective data for evaluating graduate student applicants. The predictive validity of the GREs does not differ by demographic group (Kuncel et al., 2001; 2010). Data indicate that standardized tests reduce bias in admissions against low-income and diverse applicants (Harden, 2022; Card & Juliano, 2016). When GREs are eliminated, other criteria used, such as undergraduate institution attended, introduce more bias against low income and diverse applicants (Hoxby & Avery, 2012). If cost is an issue, there are options available for reducing costs of taking and preparing for the GRE.
