Capstone Conference
University of Houston
Nov 10-11, 2023

The aims of our project have been to connect Latin American philosophers working in the epistemology of religion to the broader North American philosophical community. As the project comes to a conclusion, our capstone conference will celebrate these connections by bringing together speakers and participants from both regions. Anyone interested in the topics listed below is welcomed to apply.

Keynote: Robert Audi (Notre Dame)

Conference Topics: We welcome submissions broadly within the following topics:

  1. Evidence, Agnosticism, and Religious Belief
  2. Testimony, Disagreement, and Religious Belief
  3. Science, Debunking, and Religious Belief
  4. Agency, Virtue, and Religious Belief.

We welcome submissions from all philosophical traditions, from any variety of religious and nonreligious perspectives, and from philosophers at any career stage.

Conference Structure: The conference will be held at the University of Houston. There will be 8 presentations in total (4 on Friday and 4 on Saturday). Aside from the keynote, all presentations will come from the open call for papers. Presentations will last for 45 mins, followed by 30 mins of Q&A. Presentations must be in English and must be based on unpublished work.

Funding: All speakers will have their lodging expenses covered for 3 nights (Thursday through Sunday). Extra funding might be available for speakers unable to access travel funds at their home institutions. Breakfast and Dinners will be provided.

Submission Process:

For full consideration, please submit the following materials to labridge@central.uh.edu no later than Aug 1st, 2023:

  1. A blinded PDF copy of your paper.
  2. A PDF version of your current CV.

While our aim is to achieve a variety of balances in the program, the initial stage of the review will be done anonymously. Accepted papers will be announced by Aug 10th.

Please direct any questions to labridge@central.uh.edu as well.
