UH's Student-Run Newspaper, Yearbook Celebrate 75 Years of Service, Excellence

Marking 75 years of continuous publication at the University of Houston, The Cougar and Houstonian yearbook are UH's oldest traditions. To recognize this milestone and reconnect with its alumni, the Department of Student Publications is hosting a series of events in October including a cocktail reception and a campus time capsule.

An invitation-only reception will run from 6:30 - 8:30 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 15 in the M.D. Anderson Library, Rockwell Pavilion. All former student staff — editors, reporters, photographers, ad salespeople, literally any student employee — are invited to attend.

On Oct. 22, the department will accept items from the campus community to be included in a time capsule to be opened in 25 years, when the newspaper and yearbook turn 100.

The department also has launched a special anniversary Web site at www.uh.edu/sp/75 with staff photographs, history and front pages from the archives including the complete first edition of the newspaper and the first UH yearbook.
