Career Development Specialist

Liaison to the College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences, Pre-law/Law, and Hobby School of Public Affairs and Graduate/Professional Programs

Curletta Adams is a Career Development Specialist with University Career Services at the University of Houston. In her role, she supports students in identifying and pursuing their career goals through individualized career guidance, professional development, resume and application support, mock interviews, career programming, and workforce preparation. She is committed to helping students recognize their strengths, build confidence, and develop the skills needed to successfully navigate today's evolving workforce. 

Prior to joining the University of Houston, Curletta served in management with Workforce Solutions, a workforce development organization operating in partnership with the Texas Workforce Commission. Throughout her career, she has worked with diverse populations and individuals at various stages of their educational and employment journeys, including job seekers, unemployed individuals, youth, young adults, and individuals receiving Vocational Rehabilitation services. 

In her work with youth and young adults, Curletta helped individuals explore opportunities for career training, workforce preparation, and postsecondary education. She assisted individuals who were interested in attending college or pursuing occupational training by helping them identify appropriate educational and career pathways and connecting them with available financial assistance and workforce resources. Her experience supporting young people reinforced her passion for helping individuals understand that education, training, and career development can create meaningful pathways toward economic and professional independence. 

Curletta also has professional experience working with the Texas Veterans Commission, where she supported veterans navigating employment and career-related challenges. Her experience included working with veterans facing barriers to employment, including individuals with disabilities and other circumstances that could affect their ability to enter or reenter the workforce. This work strengthened her understanding of individualized support, advocacy, accessible employment opportunities, and connecting veterans with resources that promote long-term career success. Her professional commitment to supporting veterans is also personal, as she is married to a veteran, giving her an additional perspective and appreciation for the experiences and sacrifices of military families. 

Curletta earned a Bachelor's degree in Psychology from the University of Houston, a Master's degree in Clinical Psychology from Texas Southern University, and a Master's degree in Counseling from Houston Graduate School of Theology. Her interdisciplinary educational and professional background provides her with a comprehensive perspective on psychology, counseling, personal development, career exploration, workforce development, veteran services, and employment preparation. 

As a Career Development Specialist, Curletta brings together her background in psychology, counseling, workforce development, veteran services, and career services to provide students with holistic support as they prepare for their professional futures. She is passionate about empowering individuals to recognize their strengths, overcome barriers, build confidence, and pursue meaningful educational and career opportunities. Her professional philosophy is grounded in meeting individuals where they are, understanding their unique goals and circumstances, and helping them identify practical pathways toward personal and professional success.
