Student Center Unveils New 5th Year Celebration Video

To celebrate its 5th year birthday, the Student Centers created a documentary-style video showcasing the past 5 years of our new and renovated space.

Student Centers Launches New Live Chat Feature

During this time when students, faculty, staff and other community members are working and learning from home, the Student Centers launched a new feature on their website to assist with both general and event-related questions. On Monday, April 20, 2020 the Student Centers Information Center added the Live Chat feature on the home page of the Student Centers website. On Monday, May 4, 2020, the service was expanded to the Conference and Reservations Services (CARS) which handles all event-related services in the Student Centers.

The Information Center Live Chat feature, found on the Student Centers homepage can be accessed between the hours of 9:00 am – 3:00 pm, Monday - Friday. The CARS Live Chat can be found on the Conference and Reservations page and is also available from 9:00 am – 3:00pm, Monday - Friday.

Student Centers Welcomes Sarah Flores as Assistant Director

The Student Centers is proud to welcome Sarah Flores as our new Assistant Director of Events Services, effective April 1, 2020. Sarah comes to UH with five years of event experience, most recently at Houston Baptist University, where she was the Assistant Director of Events and Conferences.

Sarah will work with the Events Team for the Student Centers (supervising Set-Up and AV). She will also ensure our equipment and inventory are well-maintained and work closely with the Conference and Reservations Services team.

Sarah has a Bachelor of Arts in Integrated Communications from the University of Houston. We are excited to welcome Sarah back to campus!

Student Centers Welcomes Kimberly Shaw as Associate Director

The Student Centers is proud to welcome Kimberly Shaw as our new Associate Director, effective March 23, 2020. Kimberly comes to UH with 10 plus years of experience working on events in Higher Education.

Kimberly will work with all aspects of the Events Team for the Student Centers (including Conference and Reservation Services – CARS, Set-Up and AV). She will also represent the Student Centers on University & Divisional committees and fill in for the Director as needed.

Kimberly has a Bachelor of Science in Health Education and a Masters of Education from Texas Southern University. Kimberly has worked at Prairie View A&M University and San Jacinto Community College and comes with a wealth of knowledge to share with our team.

Christopher Caldwell appointed to the ACUI Board of Trustees

Christopher Caldwell, chair for the Activities Funding Board and Student Centers Policy Board, has been selected as the Student Member of the ACUI Board of Trustees. Christopher will serve a one-year appointment with the Board of Trustees. The position actively engages with the Association's strategies, finances, and governance to lead the future of ACUI. Christopher will have the opportunity for professional development through leadership, strategic planning, networking with mentors, and learning about trends and issues facing the profession. His term will begin at the annual conference in March 2020.

University of Houston Student Center Earns Green Gold!

Last month, the University of Houston Office of Sustainability gave out the first-ever Green Office Awards to campus offices that have made efforts to cut waste, reduce consumption, and generally make their offices more sustainable. Now, to kick off 2020 right, the UH Student Center has become the first-ever GOLD ranked UH Green Office.

Student Centers Celebrates 5th Birthday

The Student Centers celebrated its 5th birthday the week of January 15, 2020. On Monday evening, January 13th, the Student Centers hosted an Alumni and Artist mixer for former student leaders along with staff and artists-all current and/or former students of the University of Houston-whose work has been purchased by the Student Center. On Wednesday, January 15th, current students were able to share in the celebration with cake, games, a custom photobooth, giveaways and more.
